Central East Austin neighborhood bar Nickel City is embracing the Halloween spirit by dressing up as Moe’s Tavern from the long-running animated television show The Simpsons.
Nickel City’s Simpsons’ Halloween costume includes new signage (“Moe’s”); window wraps mimicking the tavern’s orange and green patterned windows; the centerpiece letter board featuring a daily quote from the show; and bartenders, who look more Kid Presentable than Kid Gruesome, donning the cantankerous tavern owner Moe Szyslak’s uniform of a bow tie, button-down shirt, and apron.
Nickel’s/Moe’s themed cocktail menu pulls in references from the cartoon, including the ever-famous Flaming Moe (minus the Krusty’s Non Narkotik Kough Syrup), which is lit on fire. Shots include the Mmmm…...Donuts, where the Grand Marnier creme de cacao and milk pour comes with a pink sprinkle doughnut from new food truck Republic Donuts.
And, of course, there are boozy Squishees (aka frozen cocktails), like the seasonal pumpkin spice frozen Irish Coffee, and the Orange-ish Squishee, made with rum, aloe liqueur, mango, lemon, and green tea. The beer menu, now called the Duff section, remains the same.
On-site food trailer Delray Cafe is even serving up its take on the Krusty Burger from the show’s fast-food restaurant of the same name, which comes encased in branded wrapping with the face of Krusty the Clown.
