— Essential Bay Area pitmaster Matt Horn is coming to Austin for a collaborative barbecue dinner with the city’s Evan LeRoy (LeRoy & Lewis) and Zach Hunter (The Brewer’s Table). Horn is known for bringing Central Texas-style barbecue to Oakland through his Horn Barbecue pop-ups. Two new beers will be available at the dinner, from Brewer’s Table head brewer Drew Durish: the corn-husk infused Mexican lager made with black line Husked Away, and the hoppy wheat lager Fine. It takes place on Friday, November 2 at the Brewer’s Table’s lager garden from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $30.
— Ahead of the opening of vegan ice cream shop Gati, owner Jam Sanitchat (who is also behind South Austin restaurant Thai Fresh) is debuting an ice cream truck to preview the frozen sweets at 1512 Holly Street. On deck will be vegan ice cream flavors, made with coconut milk, like Cookie Monster and sweet potato marshmallow, as well as gluten-free/vegan baked goods like brownies and cookies. While it is hosting a party on Saturday, October 27 from 3 to 6 p.m. (where half of the ice cream sales and all beverage tips will go towards flood rescue efforts), it will open on Thursday, November 1, with daily hours form noon to 6 p.m. The ice cream shop is pegged to open sometime in early 2019.
