Taco Ranch, the fast-casual taco drive-thru from Austin’s favorite burger chain P. Terry’s, opened its second location near campus last week. Along with the usual tacos and Tex-Mex dishes, special to the 517 West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard restaurant is the Mexican vanilla ice cream and cinnamon milkshake.
The second Taco Ranch menu is the same as the original, with an eye to all-natural ingredients, as is co-owner Patrick Terry’s usual approach. There are simple breakfast and lunch/dinner tacos with beef, chicken, vegetable crumbles, or refried beans, served either crispy or soft with flour or corn tortillas. Then there are options for chalupas, tostadas, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and taco salads.
Sweets feature a breakfast dessert (cinnamon roll coffee cake) and the rest-of-the-day one (churro brownies). For drinks, there is morning coffee and juices, limeades, sodas, and on the boozier side, Modelo Especial beers and frozen sangria margaritas.
Taco Ranch MLK’s space includes that drive-thru, as well as a patio and dine-in area, al designed by architect Michael Hsu. It is is open from 6 a.m. to midnight on the weekdays and from 7 a.m. to midnight on the weekends.
To celebrate the second restaurant, Taco Ranch is giving away free tacos to the first 100 guests at both of its locations on Thursday, October 4.
Co-owners Patrick and Kathy Terry opened the first Taco Ranch earlier this January in Oak Hill, and quickly followed that with plans to expand onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard less than a month later. They opened burger drive-thru P. Terry’s in 2015, followed by 14 locations and its first non-Austin location in San Marcos coming sometime next year.
