Austin’s classic diner Counter Cafe is opening its third location near West Campus at 603 West 29th Street, which had been the home of longtime pizzeria Conans Pizza Central. The new restaurant is aiming to open sometime in spring of 2019.

Owner Debbie Davis wanted to secure the third location just in case she has to shut down the original restaurant on North Lamar Boulevard, since the land is up for sale, as CultureMap Austin reported.

Special to the forthcoming restaurant will be the new liquor license, which means cocktails like Bloody Marys. Otherwise, it will serve its typical daytime menu, from breakfast items like hot cakes, eggs, and biscuits, to lunchtime plates like grilled pimento cheese sandwiches, burgers, and salads.

Davis opened the original Counter Cafe at 626 North Lamar Boulevard near Clarksville and downtown, and expanded with its second location in East Austin at 1914 East 6th Street in 2014.

Chicago-style pizza spot Conans Pizza Central closed up over the summer after 42 years of service. There are still two other locations on West Anderson and West Stassney lanes.
