Someone stole a 150-pound half pig from North Loop restaurant Foreign & Domestic on 306 East 53rd Street over the weekend. The person also took other various cuts of meat, beer, wine, Mexican cokes, milk, and cooking pans.
The burglary appeared to have happened at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, when a person, who was caught on camera, drove up to Foreign’s outdoor walk-in freezer and cut through the locks and razor-wire fencing with tools. The person then brought everything out to the truck, including a cooler, which they stowed in the bed. The entire process took two hours.
The half wattlelista pig (a cross-breed of mangalitsa and red wattle) was sourced from East Texas farm Chubby Dog, which fed the animal specifically for Foreign & Domestic. The full list of items taken from the restaurant follows below.
Co-owners Sarah Heard and Nathan Lemley realized what happened when they arrived at the restaurant at 9 a.m. for brunch. They filed a police report, and they’re asking for any help in identifying the person in the video.
“We believe it was someone who knew exactly what they wanted and exactly what to do with it,” Heard told Eater. As a result of the theft, they are adding a new alarm system to the walk-in freezer.
