Austin’s first vegan milkshake truck Milky Way Shakes makes its debut this Saturday, September 9 at Spider House on North Campus. Alas, the truck is only focusing on the milkshakes for now, which means there are no french fries for dipping yet.
The vegan menu focuses on six mainstay shakes. This includes the Oreo Borealis with the cookies, mint, and fudge swirl, and the Grackle Massacre with caramel, chocolate, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper. Customers can also mix and match their own flavors too. Read on for the full menu below.
The vegan ice cream is made with coconut milk, and shakes are mixed with almond milk. The caramel is made with coconut milk and the vegan-friendly meringues make use of aquafaba, the cooking liquid from beans.
Owners Moni Burgin and Rachel Horesovsky raised the money for the vegan milkshake truck through Kickstarter earlier this year. The two are focusing just on milkshakes for now, but they are open to expanding the menu in the winter.
Other vegan desserts in Austin include Sweet Ritual's ice cream and bakeshops Capital City Bakery and Skull and Cakebones.
