Eater 38 spot Veracruz All Natural is opening its first Austin taco-filled restaurant on Tuesday, September 26 in North Burnet, as it eases into service. The menu will span the usual favorites, from tacos to quesadillas to tortas.
Update, September 25: Looks like Veracruz couldn’t wait and the North Burnet restaurant is now open.
The new Waterford Centre Boulevard kitchen space will allow Veracruz to expand its menu with speciality dishes, like cochinita pibil and open-faced tacos. There are also new tacos, like the shrimp macha and chicken milanesa. For drinks, Veracruz is partnering with Machine Head Coffee for its coffee program. Plus there are the usual aguas frescas, smoothies, and juices.
The restaurant was originally pegged to open in May, but its opening date kept getting pushed back throughout the summer. This was because of the need for a larger grease trap. There's a grand opening party planned for Saturday, October 7.
Veracruz co-owners and sisters Reyna and Maritza Vazquez always wanted to open an Austin restaurant location of Veracruz. They were going to open a brick and mortar spot on East Cesar Chavez in 2014, but those plans fell through.
The sisters first opened Veracruz All Natural as a taco trailer in 2008. There are now currently two truck locations, one on East Cesar Chavez and the other on Manchaca Road. They also opened their first brick and mortar restaurant in Round Rock in 2016.
