Tumble 22, the hot chicken trailer from Salty Sow chef Harold Marmulstein, is opening a brick and mortar restaurant in Crestview, as reported by Community Impact. It’ll take over Twisted Root Burger Co.'s old address on Burnet Road. The new restaurant should open in early 2018.
Update, January 17, 2018: The new restaurant is pegged to open in February. The brick-and-mortar will include fresh and fried oysters, bone-in chicken tenders, duck fat fries, soft-serve ice cream, milkshakes, and pies from lemon meringue to pecan. The full bar will serve beers, vodka lemonades, and frozen margaritas.
The trailer will remain open when the restaurant makes its debut.
Update, January 26, 2018: The name of the new restaurant will be T22 Chicken Joint.
Tumble 22's trailer first opened on West 5th Street in May, with a menu focusing on the fried bird in various forms, from sandwiches to chicken oysters. Spice levels ranged from wimpy to fire in the hole. The trailer moved into Star Bar's dedicated food truck parking spot in July.
The Dallas-based burger chain Twisted Root closed up that last remaining Austin location in August.
