Austin’s favorite diner Kerbey Lane Cafe, known for its pancakes and queso, is expanding with a new location in Mueller. This will be its eighth location, found in the Aldrich Street District. It’s looking to open in fall 2018.
This Kerbey Lane won’t be open 24/7; instead its hours will be from 6 a.m. to midnight. The space will include 230 seats, 30 of which will be found outdoors. It’ll offer the same diner menu, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner spanning classic dishes.
The announced expansion was spurred on by Mueller residents, who staged what they called an “eat-in” at the original restaurant with 100 participants in 2013, because they wanted their very own Kerbey Lane Cafe.
Kerbey Lane founders Patricia Atkinson and David Ayer opened Kerbey Lane in 1980. Atkinson was originally involved with Omelettry, but left to open Kerbey. Their son, Mason Ayer, is now Kerbey’s chief executive officer.
Kerbey Lane was supposed to open another location on 1806 West Braker Lane, but that doesn’t seem to be happening anymore.
Mueller's entertainment and dining district continues to grow with local establishments, like Alamo Drafthouse's sixth theater, Italian restaurant L'Oca d'Oro, Bribery Bakery, and the recently-opened Bao'd Up
