Chicago’s iconic pizzeria Gino’s East’s is closed for renovations, as Austin 360 reported. Owner Doug Guller is looking to reopen by August. It’s worth noting that Gino’s East’s official website said that the Austin location is just “closed.”
Gino’s East came to Texas under Guller and his company ATX Brands, which includes breastaurant chain Bikini’s, Pelons, Historic Scoot Inn, Parish, and 508 Tequila Bar in Austin.
Guller opened Austin’s Gino’s East in June 2015. The pizzeria took over music venue Parish Underground's second floor space. The menu features deep dish pizza (including the Texas-themed barbecue one with brisket), along with thin-crust pies, spinach sticks, sandwiches, pasta, and other dishes. It also offers lunch specials and frozen pizzas to-go.
This is the deep dish pizza joint’s only Austin location, which others in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. There are 16 other locations of Gino’s East throughout the country.
