— Downtown's Cafe Ruckus is now closed. Next-door shop Toy Joy is taking over the 2nd Street space for a new store of some sorts, which hasn’t been announced yet. Cafe Ruckus owners Rori Gallagher and Keith Ruckus are open to the idea of hosting the cafe's high tea service somewhere else.
— Austin Monthly's best of the city issue is out, which includes a bunch of food and drink picks. There is everything from burgers (Clark's Oyster Bar), barbecue (Micklethwait Craft Meats), breakfast tacos (the publication went with Tacodeli despite other taco options), sandwiches (Biderman’s Deli), and plenty of others.
— Chef Deepa Shridhar, of Anjore and the recently renamed Puli Ra (née Chaiwalla), talked a little more about her own blend of Texas and Southern cuisine with Grubstreet. She's experimenting with Indian-spiced Texas barbecue, which means using chai and fermented chiles.
— Master sommelier June Rodil, who is also McGuire Moorman Hospitality’s wine and director and the namesake and leader behind South Congress wine bar June's, shared her drinking diet with Food & Wine. It includes a lot of wine, coffee, drinks in New Orleans where she was judging a wine challenge, and trying to drink a lot of water.
— Italian restaurant Paisano’s Trattoria and Pizzeria closed its Lakeline Boulevard location because of high rents and tax assessments. The original location out in Georgetown is still open, though.
— Austin cider maker Argus Cidery has a new flavor out, the Apple Bomb.
