The New Orleans Saints competed to see who could win barbecue from Salt Lick, as part of the quarterback challenge held during the team’s football training camp in Louisiana. It was all caught on video for the website.
Why Salt Lick? Quarterback Drew Brees was raised in Austin, so he probably has a fondness for the Driftwood restaurant. Salt Lick was used for last year’s challenge too.
For the quarterback challenge, three targets correlated to different packaged meats from Salt Lick. The easiest stood in for smoked sausage and barbecue turkey breast, another for smoked beef ribs and brisket, and the third for smoked pork ribs, “the favorite,” according to Brees.
Each quarterback had five throws to any target, depending on what meat they want to get. Whoever hit whatever target the most means they win those particular meats. Brees aimed for the pork ribs and won. “I’m very thankful for my pork ribs,” he said.
NFL players must really love Salt Lick. Chicago Bears' Jerrell Freeman saved a man who was choking at Salt Lick's airport location last weekend.
