— Community Impact followed up with Black Star Co-op after the cooperatively-owned and -run brewpub was struggling earlier this year. Despite its call for business which led to high sales in January, it still isn’t doing well. Co-founder Johnny Livesay wrote on the website that sales after that month “have remained historically low." He continued, "If we do not see improvement in our sales, we will be heading towards a similar cash crunch in the fall." In attempts to avoid that, Black Star is looking to invest in marketing, as well making other structural changes.
— Since getting Franklin Barbecue’s smoked meats isn’t super easy without a game plan, Insider wrongly recommended a visit to Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q instead, as part of a feature on how to avoid what it calls tourist traps. While, yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did stop by one of the gas station barbecue joint chain's location recently, there are other nearby better barbecue spots to check out, like, say, Kerlin BBQ.
— Gourdough's decadent bacon, cream cheese, strawberry jalapeno jelly, and candied jalapeno-topped doughnut made Buzzfeed's over-the-top doughnut list.
— Delivery app Favor expanded its coverage area into the far north and far south Austin area, including Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Manchaca.
— The governor's office put out a map highlighting the state's most known filming locations, which includes two Austin sets. There is Baker St. Pub & Grill on South Lamar Boulevard, which is seen in Office Space as Chotchkie's (where Jennifer Aniston's character Joanna wore a lot of pings for "flair"). And then there's the Dairy Queen on Manor Road, which stood in for the Alamo Freeze on Friday Night Lights, the television version.
This post has been updated to reflect the correct address for Dairy Queen.
