Sour Duck Market will become the latest addition to the Odd Duck and Barley Swine family, from chef/owner Bryce Gilmore and Mark Buley, with a focus on all-day casual service, baked goods, and retail items on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. To preview the bakery portion of the restaurant, Sour Duck’s hosting a bake sale at Odd Duck on Saturday, July 29.
On deck will be croissants, danishes, kolache, cookies, tarts, and breads, among other items yet to be announced. For drinks, cold brew and Arnold Palmers will be available. The bake sale will benefit Central Texas Food Bank’s summer meals program, which provides food for children during those school-less months. It begins at 10 a.m. until everything is sold out.
Gilmore, Buley, and co-partners Dylan Gilmore and Jason James took over Joe's Spot and Connie's Beer Garden for Sour Duck. The anticipated Central East Austin restaurant will feature indoor-outdoor space with quick-service food like sandwiches and ice cream, bakery with pastries and breads, and bar with draft drinks and frozen cocktails. Gilmore is reviving Odd Duck's original orange trailer as a smoking space for meats. It’s set to open in late 2017.
