Essential Austin coffee shop Wright Bros. Brew and Brew will be bringing its caffeine and beer prowess to West 5th Street with Better Half. The new cafe and bar will offer counter service breakfast sandwiches, lunches, and lighter dinners, along with coffee and beer, of course. It’s looking to open sometime in the fall or winter of 2017.
“We love running neighborhood spots,” said co-owner Matt Wright, “and this location is a great chance to serve [the area], while not being in the thick of downtown.” He teased that this is just the first part of a two-part operation, without offering any further details. He called Better Half the “more polished side,” which is reflected with its name, which is also inspired by the song from punk rock band Jawbreaker.
Co-owner Matthew Bolick will oversee the food menu. The team, which also includes other co-owner Grady Wright, will hire a chef and bar manager at a later time. The coffee and beer programs will be similar to Brew & Brew’s, with beans from Heart Roasters and Flat Track Coffee. There will be six to eight taps of beer, along with wine and cocktails.
The West 5th Street address was a hub for local ridesharing app Ride Austin, which maybe isn’t a good sign for the company. Nearby coffee shops include Nate's Baked Goods & Coffee.
