Taco stand El Chilito is finally opening its Manchaca Road restaurant this month on Friday, June 23, after nearly three years of construction. This is El Chile Group’s fourth location of the taquería and first El Chilito in South Austin.

Update, June 17: Turns out El Chilito spoke too soon, the taqueria had to push back its opening date to Friday, June 30.

The new El Chilito will serve the same menu, like tacos (including breakfast and puffy ones), tostadas, burritos, soups, paletas, beer, and coffee. The new space includes shaded outdoor seating. As usual, it will host its traditional pig roast party on opening day to break in the new restaurant. The hoopla will include pork tacos, cold watermelon, and drinks (plus beer and sangria), all free.

El Chile Group is keeping itself busy elsewhere as well. It just moved its Tex-Mex burger and margarita spot El Sapo’s to Bacon’s former digs on West 10th Street, off North Lamar. Next up is Peruvian restaurant Yuyo, helmed by executive chef Maribel Rivero. There is no location or opening date, but there have been a bunch of pop-up dinners.

The Manchaca Road El Chilito was pegged to open in October 2014, but it was much delayed because the entire building needed to be remodeled. In the meantime, parent company El Chile Group opened two other El Chilitos, one on East 7th Street and the other on Burnet Road, as well as South First seafood restaurant Alcomar, El Chile's Manor reopening, and El Sapo.
