Tasty Spoon, Austin’s brand new gelato shop, quietly started scooping up frozen sweets on South First, earlier this month. The cold menu includes seasonally-inspired gelato flavors, like lavender honey, basil lime sorbet, along with classics like vanilla, caramel, and mango, and other combinations, like chocolate peanut butter.
Paired with the gelato are espresso, coffee, and cold brew made with beans from Austin-based roaster Third Coast Coffee.
To prep for Tasty Spoon, owner Ashley MacDonald studied at Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy. The house, designed by McKinney York Architects, includes tables, warm wood, white subway tiles. Then there’s the expansive backyard area with picnic tables.
Tasty Spoon's hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and then noon to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Further down on South First is gelateria Dolce Neve, which just expanded into Houston, and Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon, which serves up ice cream made by pastry chef Laura Sawicki.
