Texas Reds and Whites is aiming to bring local wineries to downtown Austin with its upcoming tasting room on Red River. Functioning as both retail shop and tasting room, it will offering daily tastings using bottles from smaller Texas wineries. The lineup includes Wedding Oak Winery, Bingham Family Vineyards, and Georgetown Winery, among others.
“Austin visitors don’t even realize that Texas produces superior wine,” co-owner Martha Fischer told Eater, “and we wanted to share more of the taste of Texas.” She and co-owner Diana Mortensen want to “give visitors the opportunity to experience Texas wines when they don’t have the time or the opportunity to visit our wonderful Texas vineyards and wineries.”
Along with wine, Texas Reds and Whites will also offer up Texas beers, food, and packaged Texas goods and snacks (think salsa, jams, candy, pecans, etc.). Future plans include hosting wine clubs (two bottles or for bottles per month) and events.
When it opens, Texas Reds and Whites’ hours will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and then until midnight on Friday through Sunday. Nearby wine options include the wine bar Red Room Lounge.
