Metier Cook’s Supply, the chef’s supply and cookbook wonderland from Lenoir co-owners Jessica Maher and Todd Duplechan, is closing on South First. Its last day isn’t set yet, but it will remain open several weeks. In the meantime, the store is hosting a major sale until then.
Update, April 20: Metier’s last day is on Friday, April 21. An email sent from the shop teases a new event space at the South First address with pop-ups, cooking demonstrations, and more.
“Interest and demand at the restaurant has increased,” the couple explained the shutter in a newsletter sent today, “and we’re not at a point where we feel it would be in our best interest to focus our attention on its growth.” Read on for the full note below.
Maher and Duplechan opened Metier in 2014, focusing on goods for professional chefs and homecooks alike, from kitchenware, barware, high-end knives, cookbooks, and more. The shop often hosted book signings, visiting chefs and bartenders, and more.
Along with running intimate prix fixe New American restaurant Lenoir, Duplechan also has his hands busy with the returning Texas favorite fried chicken spot J.T. Youngblood’s, which was so swamped its first opening day in March that it is only serving lunch for now. The chef is also involved with Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew’s unnamed Southern and barbecue restaurant project out in Dripping Springs.
Metier’s Farewell Email
After three wonderful years, Todd and I have decided to close Métier. Though we have loved curating it and the sharing and learning from all of our wonderful customers, ultimately our restaurant Lenoir, our staff and our family have always been at the center of our hearts. Interest and demand at the restaurant have increased in the three years we've been operating both business, and we're now at a point where we feel it would be in our best interest to focus our attention on its growth.
We've been very fortunate to develop relationships with talented makers and with other cooks in Austin who are looking for well-crafted tools. It's been an incredibly enlightening experience and we don't take the decision lightly.
It has been an absolute pleasure to meet so many people in our Austin community, and we plan to continue in that vein with our new use of the space. Thank you to everyone who supported the shop and us personally in this wonderful adventure. We love all the Austin cooks and are proud to now know so many of you!
We're not sad, though! In fact, we're looking forward to seeing a lot of you in the store in the coming weeks while we're having a HUGE SALE and have a lot of amazing books, knives, cookware, apparel and more that need good homes with serious cooks! Starting today, Monday, April 17th, everything in the store will be 40% off or more. Seriously, you will not get the good stuff at better prices. Come say hello at least one more time!
