Austin-Bergstrom International Airport prides itself on offering mostly local concessions, from local bookstore BookPeople to music dive bar Saxon Pub. That includes a branch of Salt Lick, the popular Driftwood barbecue spot, which will undergo major renovations to accommodate more travelers.
This means the new and improved Salt Lick will be found in a new location, moving from Gate 12 over between Gate 12 and 13. The barbecue stand is also doubling in size, adding actual seats, from tables (including communal ones) to bar chairs, power outlets along the bar, and sangria dispensers.
During construction, the original location within the Barbara Jordan Terminal will remain open, so travelers can get their last minute barbecue fix.
Salt Lick opened back in 1967 by owner Scott Roberts' father Thurman in Driftwood. It also runs a barbecue trailer out within Moontower Saloon in Southwest Austin, which recently opened.
