South First spot Toss Pizzeria teamed up with Terry Black’s BBQ for a Texas-forever dish in the form of a brisket pizza. The Texas BBQ pie uses Terry Black’s barbecue sauce and briskets, paired with mozzarella cheese, onions, and pickles.
“It was the way for two local restaurants to get together, combine two things Austinites love, good pizza and legendary barbecue,” Toss managing partner Justin DeLaCruz told Eater. There was a different version of the barbecue pie with housemade brisket on Toss’ opening menu, but he got rid of it because he wanted to use smoked meats from an established restaurant.
The full 20-inch pie is $27, and the half-pie is $14. One dollar from each of the pies sold in the month of March will go towards the YMCA of Austin.
Similarly, Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ partnered with Cane Rosso for the Elena pie, using the smoked meat shop’s brisket on the Neapolitan pie.
