The Violet Taco, the taco-focused trailer from Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ, is now officially closed. It happened because the barbecue spot focuses on opening its brick and mortar restaurant, which will open later this year.

This doesn’t mean the complete end of Violet Taco, though. Valentina’s will offer up Violet Taco specials on its menu. After the new restaurant is opened, the truck will be revived to focus on events and catering gigs.

Pitmaster Miguel Vidal and and catering and events director Modesty Vidal noted the change on the website, which is no longer working. Read on for the full note below.

Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ and Violet Taco hasn’t really stayed in one place for too long. First, Valentina’s made its Austin debut at Star Bar on West 6th Street in 2013. The May 2015 move to Brodie Lane was pegged as temporary while Star Bar underwent renovations, but it decided to stick it out in South Austin. Originally, Violet Taco opened in May 2015 outside of East Cesar Chavez bar Craftsman, but moved into Valentina's old spot on West Sixth later that August. Last December, Valentina's announced it would open a brick and mortar restaurant in further south Austin on Manchaca Road. To settle into the space, the food truck moved last month. Violet Taco then moved into its old Brodie Lane lot.

Taking over Violet Taco’s brief spot on Brodie Lane is newcomer barbecue truck Naughty Texan, which was formerly known as D&R Bar-B-Que.

The Violet Taco’s Farewell Note

We are so thankful for the outpouring of love and support from our customers!

Due to an almost 20% increase in business of our Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ new Manchaca location, we have decided to temporarily halt operations of The Violet Taco while we focus on the brick and mortar expansion of Valentina’s.

We will continue to have Violet taco pop up nights at Valentina’s and new specials inspired by the Violet taco menu. Once the brick and mortar is completed, we plan to have the Violet Taco become our mobile food truck for caterings, special events, and festivals to serve a combination of BBQ tacos and speciality Tex Mex tacos.

We love our customers and hope to see you at the Valentina’s Manchaca location. We cannot wait to watch our family business continue to succeed due to our amazing Valentina’s and Violet Taco family and friends. Thank you, South Austin, for all your love and support!
