The Halal Guys, the ever-growing Middle Eastern fast casual restaurant, is planning on making its Austin debut sometime this spring. It will take over the I Luv Video slot right on 2915 Guadalupe Street.

Much like the other locations, the Austin menu spans rice platters and sandwiches, filled with halal chicken, gyro, or falafel for a non-meat option, along with fries, hummus, pitas, baklavas, and very spicy hot sauce.

The Halal Guys founders Muhammed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka, and Abdelbaset Elsayed opened the first iteration of the food cart in New York in the 1990s, which quickly expanded in the city, and grew throughout the country and world with franchised locations. Texas already has several in Houston and Dallas. The trio eyed an Austin expansion in 2014, and finally settled on the North Campus address last fall.

I Luv Video, the campus video store, closed in the fall of 2015, and merged its stock with the I Luv Video on Airport Boulevard.
