An employee of Austin pizzeria chain Southside Flying Pizza was fired over allegedly insulting an Austin police officer. After the cop purchased a meal from the East Cesar Chavez location on Sunday, a staffer printed a receipt with a comment involving "pig" and “two other words not fit for TV,” as reported by KXAN.
Along with firing the employee, Southside Flying Pizza manager David Hatley also told the news channel that it donated $1,000 to a police officer memorial fund. In response to the incident, the Austin Police Department issued the following statement to KXAN:
It is a reflection of one employee’s actions, not that of the owner/s or other employees of the restaurant. When the incident was brought to the restaurant’s attention it was immediately addressed and a donation was made to a nonprofit that supports law enforcement.
Some officers, along with the vice president of the Austin Police Association, dined at the restaurant during lunch today to show their support.
