Kesos Taco House announced through social media that it is shuttering its original location at 4720 South Congress Avenue after service on Friday, March 3 because it was unable to extend its lease. The business opened in 2014 an emphasis on made-to-order tacos starring fresh ingredients, locally sourced tortillas, and queso, of course.

The second Kesos Taco House, which opened in 2015 at 600 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. will remain open. It is adding beer and liquor to its beverage menu soon and also plans to extend its hours. The company hopes to eventually relocate the South Congress location, as well as open additional locations.

The message from Chief Executive Officer Jhonatan Aldana read:

Dear Valued Customers,

It saddens us to say, that after only 3 years of serving great tacos at our original location, 4720 S. Congress Ave, we will be having to close our doors.

Unfortunately, we were not able to obtain a lease extension to continue serving in this location, forcing us to shut our doors. Our last day open in this location will be Friday, March 3, 2017. Come eat as many tacos as possible until then, and help us say goodbye to our original location.

At this point, we will be focusing on our second location, which has been open for a little over a year and is located at 600 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Austin, TX, 78701, in downtown Austin. We will soon be selling beer and liquor, along with having extended hours at that location. So please come visit us there, and let’s Keep Tacos Weird!

Thank you so much for all the love and support you have given us since we opened our doors back in 2014. Every single one of you has made our journey amazing, and we hope to continue seeing all of y’all at our other location, and at our future locations to come. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for any of you taco lovers, but rest assure Kesos Taco House will continue to grow, and we hope to relocate this original location in the near future. Also, stay tuned for other exciting news we have instore.

Thank you,
Jhonatan Aldama
Chief Executive Office

Last year local barbecue guru Evan LeRoy shared with Eater that he counted both Kesos locations as go-to breakfast spots praising them for "delicious, big tacos. Excellent salsas and queso on everything."

Earlier today, the South Austin institution Maria’s Taco Xpress announced it is also closing its doors citing high property taxes and slower business. Its last day is potentially Saturday, April 1.
