South First truck Mellizoz Tacos is opening a Mexican restaurant out in Sunset Valley. Cruzteca will open on Brodie Lane in spring 2018.
Mellizoz is taking over Stuffed Cajun Meat Market's Sunset Valley location, which closed sometime earlier this year. The Ranch Road 620 one remains open. Cruzteca’s hours will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the weekdays and 8 a.m. on the weekends.
Along with the stellar tacos (ranging from migas to La Pachuca with braised beef and eggs, to fried avocado), Mellizoz also whips up tortas, guacamole, queso, and fried with garlic or queso and bacon. While the main truck is parked on South First, there is a second roaming truck with a limited menu.
Mellizoz Tacos was originally known as Izzoz Tacos when it opened in 2008 under chef John Galindo, his brother Tony, his sister Jessica Galindo Winters, and her husband Adam. The taco truck had to change its name due to a trademark infringement lawsuit from K&F Restaurant Management LLC, the parent company of Izzo's Illegal Burrito, which doesn't have any Austin locations. The name stems from the Spanish word for fraternal twins, mellizo, which happen to run in the family. Now the truck is run by his sister Jessica and Adam Winters.
