Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery is taking over Bribery Bakery’s now-vacated shop in Mueller for its third Austin bakery, as noted by an Eater tipster and confirmed by the bakery. The new spot will be called Lady Quackenbush’s Cakery, expected to open sometime in early 2018.
For the new location, Quack’s is moving the cake production shop from the 43rd Street location over to Simond Avenue. Lady Quackenbush will be dedicated to customized cakes and cookies, as well as coffee, espresso, and pastries. The Mueller bakery will also expand on its offerings, adding items like cake truffles, macaroons, eclairs, and more. It’ll also make use of Bribery’s liquor license and serve beer and wine.
Quack’s is still making progress on its forthcoming south Austin bakery, Captain Quackenbush’s Coffeehouse, which took over Strange Brew Cafe on Manchaca Road. The bakery will open in stages, the first consisting of coffee service, pastries, and a full bar. The second phase, expected to debut in March 2018, will include the bakery production facility and retail area. Quack’s on 43rd Street will remain open.
Bribery Bakery owner Jodi Elliott closed up the Mueller location in August, citing that it was "all-consuming" to run two bakeries. The original bakery in Wells Branch is still open.
Quack's first opened on Guadalupe Street as Captain Quackenbush's Intergalactic Espresso and Dessert Company. Owner Art Silver opened the 43rd Street spot for bakery production. When the original cafe closed, everything relocated to Hyde Park.
This article has been updated to reflect that Quack’s isn’t leaving its 43rd Street home.
