Statesman discovered how south Austin brewpub ABGB makes its pilsners after the brewery took home several medals from this year’s Great American Beer Festival for its beers in October.

— Austin’s most pleasantly surprising restaurant Pitchfork Pretty is taking a short vacation in the new year. The Holly restaurant will be closed from Monday, January 1, 2018, to Monday, January 8, 2018. It will reopen on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

— CultureMap Austin food editor Brandon Watson made his predictions for what will be trendy in Austin next year. This potentially includes healthy bowls, more food diversity, a return to diners, and small-batch flours.

— Looks like Holly Italian restaurant Juniper is will introduce a tasting menu sometime soon, according to its Instagram account. Potential dishes include quail saltimbocca and celeriac soup with blue crab.

— Austin is the fifth best city for beer drinkers in the country, according to personal finance technology firm SmartAsset. It was based on the number of breweries, bars, beer prices, and Yelp ratings.
