A new brunch restaurant is coming to Sunset Valley with The Funky Brunch. Helmed by chef Michael Wake, the restaurant will focus exclusively on the mid-morning meal. Wake hopes to open the restaurant in early February 2018, at a prime location at 4715 South Lamar Boulevard, next to Cane Rosso and Cow Tipping Creamery.

Wake, who worked for Whole Foods for 14 years, told Eater that he chose to focus on brunch because it is his favorite dining-out meal. He noted that it “can go in all kinds of directions.”

The menu at The Funky Brunch is quite varied, offering sweet dishes like funnel cake fritters and churro waffles, salads, and savory takes like customizable tacos (available on almond flour tortillas) and latke hashes. There’s a kids menu as well as vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

The restaurant’s planned hours are from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily. Wake also plans to host catering, cooking classes, and private events in the evenings.
