Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden will become South Austin’s latest cafe and bar, set to open on Monday, January 8. The Pickle Road spot, off South Congress, will also become the new home for new-school barbecue trailer LeRoy & Lewis, which will dish up barbecue breakfast made with bagels from Rosen’s Bagel Co. The morning menu will include various filling combinations, like chopped brisket and smoked jalapenos.
LeRoy & Lewis isn’t moving too far from its current spot on Pickle Road. This move was planned all along from the beginning with Cosmic co-owners Paul Oveisi (owner of shuttered music venue Momo's) and Patrick Dean. The cafe will also host other rotating food trucks.
Cosmic will serve up coffee from roasters like Texas Coffee Traders and Third Coast. The booze program will focus heavily on agave spirits, including tequila, mezcal, and sotol. It’ll serve up draft beer from 21 tap, wine, tapped/frozen/coffee cocktails, along with Kosmic Kombucha's Sway House Brew and non-alcoholic cocktails. Initial cocktails include the frozen boozy coffee made with tequila, espresso, dark chocolate, and mole spices, and the as-of-yet-unnamed frozen drink with ginger, lime, marionberry, and tequila.
Cosmic includes a lot of outdoor space, since Oveisi is a landscape designer, with a vegetable and herb garden, eco-pond, chicken coop made out of an old horse carriage, rainwater catchment and irrigation system.
Cosmic Coffee took over what was slated to be Buzz Mill Coffee’s second Austin location, but those plans fell through last summer. LeRoy & Lewis is eventually opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant and brewery out in the Hill Country.
Cosmic’s hours will be from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, and then from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
