Merit Coffee, the San Antonio-based cafe formerly known as Local Coffee, is now open in downtown Austin within Seaholm. This is its first location in the city, with two more coffee shops to come.
Merit features beans from owner Robby Grubbs and CFO Bill Ellis’ roasting enterprise Merit Roasting Co. A visitor to the Austin location already noted the shop’s Morgan Geisha espresso.
For food, Merit boasts of Bakery Lorraine’s baked goods and pies (the first time the San Antonio bakery’s products are available in the city, that is, until its first Austin shop opens in Rock Rose next year), along with Tacodeli tacos, Juice Society's juices, and doughnuts from San Antonio-based Maybelle's Donuts.
Merit Coffee's Seaholm hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Owner Robby Grubbs opened the original Local Coffee down in San Antonio in 2008. It grew to five other locations. The six San Antonio cafes will be rebranded to Merit Coffee as well.
