— Austin chefs gathered at Holy Roller this week to participate in a no-hands pie-eating contest benefitting Safe. The contestants had to eat two pies (chocolate cream and lemon meringue) as quickly as they could within three minutes. Central Standard’s Casey Wilcox won, followed by Launderette’s Laura Sawicki, and then Parkside Projects’ Shawn Cirkiel. Other participants included Aaron Franklin, Ramen/Kemuri Tatsu-ya’s Tako Matsumoto, Uchi’s Tyson Cole, and more. Almost $1,600 was raised, which will be matched by the Dell Foundation.
— Austin Beer Guide announced the winners of its best-of awards last night, which included Jester King Brewery as best brewery, Live Oak Brewing Co, for best overall beer, and Batch for best beer and food spot.
— East Riverside food trailer park South Shore Eatery shut down because of mixed-use development in the South Shore district. That means the food truck tenants had to either relocate, like Churro Co. to South First, or close down completely, like Rise Up ATX.
