James Beard award-winning chef Hugh Acheson is coming to Austin to promote his new cookbook, The Chef & The Slow Cooker, next month. Naturally, one can’t do this without a cooking demonstration, so the chef will be making beer-braised pork tacos, which will be sold to benefit his nonprofit, Seed Life Skills. The event takes place at the flagship Whole Foods Market (525 North Lamar Boulevard) on Sunday, December 3, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Event attendees will participate in the interactive taco demonstration, have the chance to ask Acheson about slow cooking, and get their cookbooks signed. Taco ingredients are provided by Whole Foods Market and Cholula hot sauce. The event is but one stop on the 25-city tour, which is sponsored by Airstream and All-Clad slow cookers.
Acheson has quite a few accolades other than Top Chef fame. He picked up a James Beard Award for his cookbook A New Turn in the South: Southern Flavors Reinvented for Your Kitchen, and was a co-winner of the James Beard Award for Best Chef, Southeast. He is also is chef/partner at five restaurants in Georgia. His nonprofit, Seed Life Skills, is a research-based collaborative “dedicated to empowering youth to be sustainable stewards of food and financial resources.”
