Nine Banded Whiskey announced that it is opening a new tasting room on Fitzhugh Road this winter. The site, which will include the company’s new headquarters as well as the tasting room, will be located at 13377 Fitzhugh Road.
The 4,780 square foot space will also host food trucks and live music. The tasting room will be designed by McCray & Co., the team behind Lenoir, Noble Sandwich Co, Ramen Tatsu-Ya. It’ll contain wood elements from cabinet shops and old whiskey barrels.
The name Nine Banded Whiskey pays homage to the nine-banded armadillo (as the company points out, “a nocturnal native Texan”). Per the press release, the distillery uses “limestone filtered water pulled from an untapped spring in the Texas Hill Country.”
The Austin-based whiskey brand also opened a round of Series B funding. It was founded in 2016, and its CEO is Gary Crowell, a founder of another Austin spirits company, Deep Eddy Vodka.
Nine Banded’s neighbors include Jester King Brewery, Argus Cidery, and Last Stand Brewing Company. It’s also the latest in a string of Austin whiskey companies, like Ben Milam Distillery in Blanco, Still Austin Whiskey Co., and Treaty Oak Distillery.
