— Aaron Franklin is going to cook up pulled pork po’boys for this year’s New Orleans-inspired Wine & Swine. Other dishes for the pork-centric event include smoked boudin noir with persimmon barbecue sauce from Lenoir, crispy pig head from Guild, king cake roulade from Aviary, and more. New Orleans’ famed bartender Chris Hannah (Arnaud’s French 75) will mix drinks once again, including the Amaryllis Sling. It takes place on Sunday, November 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Camp Mabry, but the event is sold-out.
— Rosen’s Bagel Co.’s bagels and schmears are now available at Govalle cafe Sa-Ten.
— As cold weather rolls in, Contigo is stopping its lunch service for the late fall and winter season. The last day for midday meals is today, Friday, November 10.
— Chef magazine StarChefs announced the winners of its Rising Stars of 2017 in Austin and San Antonio. This includes Kemuri Tatsu-ya’s Tatsu Aikawa, Adam Brick (formerly of Apis, now with Vino Vino), Emmer & Rye's Tavel Bristol-Joseph, Counter 3.Five.VII's Daniela Herrera, Vox Table's Madelyn Kay, and others.There will be an awards ceremony and dinner celebrating the winners on Wednesday, December 13 at the Fair Market. StarChefs last picked out winners in the area in 2012.
— Austin Food & Wine Festival will take place from Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29, 2018.
— Down in San Antonio, chef Johnny Hernandez is moving grilled meats-focused El Machito from its current location of the Alamo Quarry Market into Brooks. Its last day of operation in the market is Sunday, November 12. He is also expanding Mexican restaurant La Gloria with a four location. Both restaurants will open in fall of 2018.
