Garbo’s Lobster Truck is coming to downtown Austin in a permanent spot. The food truck will be parked next door to Chi’lantro’s vehicle at 823 Congress Avenue.
An eagle-eyed tipster spotted a display rendering of the exterior over the summer. While the downtown Garbo’s will not look exactly like the rendering, owner Heidi Garbo said there will be an outdoor seating area.
Garbo is “super excited” about the central location. While this will become a forever address for the food truck, a second food truck will roam around the city. The restaurant, which debuted in July 2014, will also remain open in Wells Branch.
There is no set opening date for Garbo’s downtown location, it should debut sometime this winter. The pegged timeline is December 2017, but Garbo predicts it will open sometime in February 2018.
Chil'lantro's downtown location is currently open for breakfast and lunch, serving Korean barbecue tacos, burritos, and bowls, as well as breakfast tacos. It opened in February 2016. Garbo’s lobster truck first opened in 2013.
