New South African restaurant Peli Peli is coming to Austin in early 2018, but attendees of Austin City Limits Music Festival will get a first taste of the menu during the festival this weekend and next.

Of course, this will be old news to festival-goers from Houston, where the popular restaurant has three locations in Vintage Park, Katy, and the Galleria area, as well as a more casual Peli Peli Kitchen near Memorial.

Peli’s ACL menu is a balance of healthy and, well, fried mac and cheese balls. There are two kebab options (marinated steak with bell peppers or curried chicken) and a fresh cucumber salad with tomatoes and peppadews. The mac and cheese balls, on the other hand, come with truffle ranch sauce. This menu seems appropriate for a restaurant that claims French, Dutch, African, Malay, and Indian influences.

Peli Peli’s eventual Austin home is in the Second Street District at 201 West 3rd Street, in the former Cantina Laredo. The area is experiencing a recent influx of dining options, like ATX Cocina and Le Politique.
