It’s clear that former First Lady Michelle Obama is a fan of Austin barbecue. She arranged for a barbecue delivery from Terry Black’s Barbecue on Monday, October 16, while she was in town for speaking engagement at Spredfast Smart Social Summit.

Obama and her staff ordered brisket, pork, ribs, beef ribs, turkey, sausage, as well as all the sides and desserts, co-owner Mark Black told Eater. It was a last minute order, and she wrote a letter thanking the barbecue restaurant for the quick service. Read the full text below.

“We weren’t 100 percent sure if it was really for her,” Black said, “[but] I was excited knowing she was going to get some great local barbecue instead of some generic catered airport food.” Of the letter, he said, “She is a class act.”

One of the last times Obama was in town for a music keynote panel at SXSW in 2016, she ordered barbecue and pies from Micklethwait Craft Meats. Her husband, former president Barack Obama, already tried barbecue from Franklin Barbecue and Stubb's.

Very classy move @michelleobama Thank you. It was our honor! #Respect

Michelle Obama’s letter:

Dear Terry Black's Barbecue Staff,

I wanted to write and thank you all for the delicious BBQ, tasty sides, and amazing desserts for our flight home from Austin. It was some of the best barbecue my staff and I have ever had.

I realized we put in a last minute request, and your kindness means so much to me.

Again, thank you so much for the wonderful meal. It made a long flight home a lot better.

Sincerely,
Michelle Obama
