The Mueller district continues to expand its restaurant offerings, with Acai Hut being the latest to announce it will be joining the growing neighborhood. The Brazilian family-owned venture, which currently operates a trailer at Barton Springs, will be opening its first brick and mortar at 1911 Aldrich Street in December.
Owner Rodrigo Cid, a native of Brazil who owns the store with his wife and sister, says the Mueller location will have new bowls and smoothies. The current menu starts with a base of acai and guarana (a caffeinated Brazilian sweetener) and can be made light (topped with fruit and granola), “powerful” (blended with protein powder and avocado), or indulgent (topped with Nutella).
For the new location in Mueller, Cid is partnering with an importer to bring mate tea. He also teases, “We are introducing a new concept of serving acai in the store that will change how people eat acai. And that will be a surprise for the grand opening.”
Acai Hut’s trailer at The Picnic food park, which opened in 2016, will continue to operate in addition to the brick and mortar at Mueller. Per Cid, the new space will have “some landscape from Brazil mixed with Austin culture and a sense of ‘paradise’ feeling.” A proponent of the health benefits of the berry, he hopes this will be the first of many new locations.
