Finally expanding out of the Pacific Northwest, Little Big Burger is coming to Austin in early 2018. The burger chain is heading to the Indie on East Sixth, a micro-apartment complex at 1648 East Sixth Street. This is the first of at least three Little Big Burgers to hit Austin by 2021.
The restaurant is known for simple menu of high quality burgers (cheeseburgers can come with chevre, cheddar, swiss, bleu, or pepper jack), truffle fries, and root beer floats. The group has seasonal collaborations planned with local brands.
“Little Big Burger's funky music, decor and menu are all a natural fit for East Austin,” noted Wesley Jones, the president of Austin restaurant group Big Star BG, which is overseeing the local expansion. “We selected East 6th Street as our first location as we feel it's one of the more iconic streets in town and has all of the elements of what makes East Austin so great.” The location will feature “heavy East Austin influence” per Jones, with local furniture makers and an artist helping with the space.
Little Big Burger opened in Oregon in 2010 by restaurateurs Micah Camden and Katie Poppe, who own several other Portland eateries. In 2015, the restaurant was bought by Chanticleer Holdings, which owns some Hooters locations and a few other burger chains. The now-former owners were involved in a lawsuit over unpaid overtime wages in 2016. The Austin locations will be operated in partnership with local restaurant group Big Star BG, LLC.
The restaurant plans to host a free burger day for its opening.
