Upcoming North Loop taco restaurant Our Taco House Co-op has now launched an Indiegogo campaign to help with opening expenses. The campaign has a fixed goal of $500,000. Our Taco House is a project from Shirley Trevino and Raquel Banda, former longtime employees of Tamale House #3. (Tamale House East is not affiliated with the project, and has been clear on that point.)

In the promotional video and materials, Trevino and Banda are vocal about their goal to deliver “tacos at an affordable price” and “the quickest co-op tacos in town”. They aim to charge $1.50 per taco, with a $1.25 happy hour price. An menu of 20 tacos is planned. There will also be $6 meal plates on the menu, including staples like migas, chalupas, and frito pies.

The Our Taco House team has been working with UT’s Experiential Learning Law Clinic to create their worker cooperative, which intends to provide a “pathway to ownership for all employees” and “democratic member control” within the organization. For more on the business model, see Eater Austin’s August 2017 profile story.

Live music is also planned for the venue, which has not yet set an opening date.
