Korean Mexican mini-chain Chi’lantro’s fifth location will grace East Riverside starting on Monday, January 9. Customers will find the same revered kimchi fries, Korean barbecue, and more in the restaurant within the South Shore District.
Before its debut, Chi’lantro will host preview hours where guests are encouraged to pay whatever they want. All of those profits will go towards several selected charities: Austin Animal Center, Children’s Tumor Foundation, Mobile Loaves & Fishes, and CareBox. Those hours are from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 6, and then again from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 7.
Recently, owner Jae Kim landed a giant investment courtesy of Shark Tank. He’ll use the money to expand his kimchi empire over into Houston and Dallas. He first opened Chi’lantro as a food truck back in 2010, and it quickly grew into three brick and mortars and a stationary downtown truck across Austin.
Chi’lantro’s South Shore hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
