Nicolas Cage made a special appearance on Sunday at Alamo Drafthouse’s celebration of all things Cage, C4GED, the fourth annual movie marathon held in honor of the actor's birthday. The movie theater appropriately celebrated with a cake from HEB topped with dried crickets.
C4GED host and Alamo staffer Greg MacLennan opted for a white birthday cake decked out in purple, green, and yellow frosting (New Orleans colors since Cage has a big affinity for the city: he already has a pyramid-shaped tomb ready.) The crickets, which were sourced from Amazon, were a homage to the actor’s 1988 film, Vampire’s Kiss, where his character ate an actual cockroach.
Cage also read Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart out loud, watched five of his personally selected films with the audience, and oversaw a marriage proposal. Since it was at the Alamo, the themed menu included Alcatraz Pizza, I Could Eat a Peach Cobbler for Hours, and the Bad Lieutenant's Sazerac. This is the first time the actor has shown up at the movie marathon.
