Republic of Sandwich, Allandale’s sandwich and breakfast taco restaurant, closed in December. The restaurant held its last day on Wednesday, December 21.

The news isn’t without a light at the end of the tunnel, though. On its website, Republic teases “some exciting opportunities to pursue and will keep you posted on what’s next.” Read the full note below.

Update, January 4: General manager Pete O’Donnell told Eater the team is looking for a new location.

Chef Thomas Gardner, along with O'Donnell, opened Republic in the fall of 2014. The menu spanned breakfast tacos, bagels (sourced from Rockstar Bagels), meaty and vegetarian-friendly sandwiches, with sides expected and unusual (tater tots, kimchi sprouts).

This brings the total number of Austin restaurant, bar, and food trucks shutters up to 58 for 2016.

Republic of Sandwich It’s with a heavy heart that we announce this location will permanently close on Wednesday, Dec 21, 2016 at 3 p.m. We have some exciting opportunities to pursue and will keep you posted on what’s next. We would like to thank the Allendale/Rosedale communities and all of our customers for a great 2+ years. We appreciate the support that this community has provided us. It truly has been a pleasure serving you.
