Circus-Themed Unbarlievable Is Now Open on Rainey Street

The hundred-plus-year-old bungalow at 76 Rainey Street has transformed into the carnival-inspired bar Unbelievable, which opened quietly during SXSW. According to its Facebook page, the previously self-proclaimed “Greatest Drinkery on Earth” will be “decidedly offbeat, shrouded in eclecticism and whimsy,” and you guessed it, unbelievable.

The menu is filled with bar snacks for $10 or under, which includes cotton candy, mini-corn dog basket, firecracker shrimp, Frito pie, and lots of funnel cake options from sweet (think ice cream sundae) to savory (spicy fried chicken). There are also five different types of stacked salads. Scope out the full menu below.

Adhering to its you-must see-it-to-believe-it theme are oversized cocktails: a 24-ounce New Orleans-style hurricane and an Elephant Mule which comes in 96-ounce ($50) or 196-ounce ($95) copper mugs.

Unbarlievable’s indoor space is dressed bright colors including thick red and light blue stripes with yellow accents and features a full wrap-around bar. The outdoor space has a deck, stage, outdoor bar marked by the light-up Funhouse sign, and lawn.

The bar, run by Brandon Cash, advertises that “[a]ll are welcome to charivari.” (Translation: it’s going to be loud and chaotic. Consider yourself warned.) It will host special events, entertainment, and music as well.

Unbarlievable is open from Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Friday from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2 a.m. Details about its grand opening celebration will be announced soon.

Unbarlievable is not Austin’s first gathering spot inspired by the big top: Alamo Drafthouse Mueller with it’s a carnival-themed Barrel O’ Fun bar and event space recently opened. Daytime hours are family friendly, while the evenings will be directed towards adults with cocktails, barrel-aged beers, and entertainment such as music, karaoke, and comedy. There’s also playful dive bar Carousel Lounge.
