Asian supermarket chain H Mart is coming to Austin, as reported by Statesman, landing on Lakeline Boulevard. If the other locations are any indication, customers should expect a food court with quick service stands dishing out Asian specialties. This could include ramen, Korean snacks, a bakery, and more.
The grocery store will offer up a plethora of Korean snacks, pre-made meals, noodles, kimchi, seaweed, rice, fresh seafood, and much more. After construction is potentially completed in December, as the newspaper predicts, it should open either in late 2017 or early 2018.
This location of H Mart is near an HEB Plus and it’s further north of Austin’s other Asian markets, MT Supermarket, Hong Kong Supermarket, and Hana World Market.
Another Asian supermarket chain, 99 Ranch Market, is also set for Austin, along North Lamar and Airport, opening sometime this year. That development comes with Kula Revolving Sushi Bar, the city's first conveyor belt sushi restaurant.
This is Austin's first H Mart, and Texas' fourth: two in Houston, and the others outside of Dallas, with locations across the country. The original market opened in Queens, New York back in 1982. The name stems from Han Ah Reum, which the market takes to mean "one arm full of groceries."
