Another new addition to the growing Mueller area will be Colleen’s Kitchen, the southern-inspired restaurant, which will be found within the same building as the sixth Austin location of Alamo Drafthouse. It’s set to open in early 2017.

The open kitchen will deliver dishes like fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs, serving lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. There will be a dedicated takeout window for what it calls picnic box lunches and coffee.

The space, designed by Kevin Stewart’s architecture firm, will feature two bars, one inside and the other outside, mixing up takes on classic cocktails, plus pouring wine and beer. There are patio plans, too.

The neighborhood-focused spot is meant to feel homey, or as co-owner Ashley Fric described in a statement: "as if you are coming to a favorite relative’s home." It’s named after her and co-owner and husband Sean Fric’s three-year-old daughter Elizabeth Colleen aunt. The family live in the neighborhood, and Sean also runs J. Black’s Feel Good Kitchen and Lounge on West 6th Street and cocktail bar The Golden Goose on South Lamar.

Joining Colleen’s in the Aldrich Street space are revived fried chicken haven J.T. Youngblood’s, Xian’s Bao’d Up, plus Lick Honest Ice Creams, Halcyon Coffee and Bar, and San Antonio-based Stella Public House. Other nearby neighbors include Kyoten Sushiko, L’Oca d’Oro, and Bribery Bakery.
