The future of Fat Cats Organic Coffee and Desserts, the vegan neighborhood hangout in Crestview, is unknown in the wake of owner and founder Payal Patel’s recent passing.

Fat Cats posted about potentially selling the business in its Facebook announcement on Patel’s passing:

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fat Cats’ founder and owner, Payal Patel. Payal poured her heart and soul into creating this organic, fair-trade and vegan-friendly café, and we hope to keep her dream alive by keeping Fat Cats running. If you or anyone you know may be interested in buying the café, please contact ByTheTeaspoonLLC@gmail.com. We appreciate your patience during this difficult time as we strive to provide you with the best possible service in Payal’s absence.

Donations to assist the cafe can be made through GoFundMe. More than $3,000 has been raised to date.

Specializing in organic and vegan-friendly desserts, ice cream, and coffee, the locally-owned = was a dream realized for Patel. In addition to espresso drinks and tea, the menu centers on housemade desserts from ingredients sourced responsibly and locally, when possible. A highlight is Patel’s own signature Mexican chocolate cookies.

Fat Cats marks its one-year anniversary this week. The shop remains open with regular business hours for now.
