Popular downtown restaurant Second Bar + Kitchen’s expansion to far north Austin will debut on Tuesday, August 30. The second location opens as part of the Archer Hotel within hotspot Domain Northside. It’s where founding chef David Bull will run the kitchen.
New changes to Second Bar’s hotel menu will include breakfast, and special poolside and terrace menus, serving Bloody Mary shrimp cocktails, ceviche made with salmon belly, and more. The restaurant will also take over all of the hotel’s culinary options, from room service to catering.
The space, designed by LK Architecture, will fit 144 people all together. The pool has a warming fireplace and cabana. The inside features giant stars against a glass ceiling.
Second Bar will serve only breakfast and lunch initially. Dinner will open starting on Friday, September 2, then the terrace on Wednesday, September 7, followed by the pool on Saturday, September 10. Full hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. This is the second Archer Hotel location after the original in New York.
Bull opened the original Second Bar along with fine dining spot Congress (which is now closed), and Bar Congress (which will reopen after the downtown renovations) in 2010. He’s also the vice president of culinary operations at parent company La Corsha Hospitality,
La Corsha also oversees Boiler Nine Bar + Grill, the three-story restaurant/bar/lounge in the Seaholm, the revamping of classic icon Green Pastures, Second Bar’s airport outpost, and the forthcoming East Austin Hotel with to-be-revived cocktail bar Wonderland.
