Emmer & Rye, the grain-focused restaurant on Rainey Street from owner and chef Kevin Fink, nabbed a spot on Bon Appetit’s 50 Best New Restaurants list, which was revealed today. The top ten list will be revealed on Tuesday, August 16.
It was Emmer’s deep love of grains, from in-house milling, the handmade pastas, to even the decorative wheat, that did it for Bon Appetit. The publication also highly recommends the dim sum cart, especially during brunch when it's filled with baked goods from pastry chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph.
Other Texas picks on the list are Hotel Emma (with Supper and Larder) in San Antonio, Foreign Correspondents in Houston, and Trompo in Dallas.
Fink was named one of Food & Wine's best new chefs this year, too. He opened the rustic restaurant in November 2015.
Last year, both Dai Due and now-shuttered Gardner made the general list, and Dai Due made it to the narrowed-down top ten list. The year before that, East Side King Thai Kun was number eight.
